85% of Chileans support the implementation of formal regulation for online betting platforms

The consultation carried out through an online panel, to a total of 1,006 people, covering men and women over 18 years of age from the 16 regions of the country, showed that 83% of the participants in the survey believe that it is necessary to establish equality of conditions for private online betting operators and state companies such as Polla y Lotería. Only 17% agree with granting preferential treatment to the latter.

“70% of OECD countries have already regulated online betting, creating a modern and robust framework for this technology industry. Chile has the opportunity to follow this example, building a solid and modern regulatory base that benefits and protects users”, Carlos Baeza, lawyer for Betsson, Betano, Coolbet, LatamWin, BetWarrior and 1XBET.

The bill being discussed in the Economy Commission of the Senate of the Republic considers a tax burden of 38%, placing Chile as one of the countries with the highest tax burden in the world, followed by the Netherlands (29%). , Denmark (28%), far from Spain (20%), the United Kingdom (18%), Colombia (16%) and finally Peru (12%). 72% of those surveyed by Citizen Panel believe that Online Betting Platforms should pay taxes that reflect an average of what is paid both in other Latin American countries and in developed nations, 22% maintain that they should face taxes highest in the world, while 6% advocate for the lowest.

In this sense, the lawyer for Betsson, Betano, Coolbet, LatamWin, BetWarrior and 1XBET, highlighted the results of the survey which demonstrate growing awareness and support for regulation in the sector: “The findings of this study show a clear trend towards understanding and supporting the regulation of our industry. A vast majority of those surveyed want to advance regulation that defines equal treatment between private and state operators, as well as a fair and balanced tax burden. These results are fundamental in the context of the current parliamentary debate and encourage us to continue working towards a regulatory framework that benefits all parties involved: operators, the government and, most importantly, our users.”
